My baby girl was born on Sept. 29th. I am obsessed with her, as are my 2 boys, and I can hardly wait till things settle down so that I can get back to making stuff (other than a baby).

simple solutions

In preparation for the arrival of our 3rd baby I have been trying to do little projects around the house to solve little problems we have. A well known problem of mine is leaving a wadded up towel next to the sink in the kitchen. I hang it from the oven handle, but when I go to dry my hands it always ends up by the sink.

SOLUTION: I had the idea to get a simple drawer handle that I could screw in right below the sink to hang the towel from. For under 3$ at the hardware store I found a handle that worked, put it where I thought it most convenient to have my kitchen towel, and that is that! problem solved!

I went for simple, but there were many cute handles that would have worked, and you could probably find some col ones at an antique store as well.

A friend and I have been planning a baby shower for little Elliot, so I have been scouring the internet for baby shower decor ideas, and managed to throw these together for one of the tables. Our goal is to only decorate with stuff we can reuse or put into the nursery. I thought these would be cute on a shelf, or on top of her dresser after the shower.

I used pop bottles and a spent spice jar, and just threw a few coats of spray paint on them. To finish them off for the shower I made a few pom-pom flowers with pom-poms and sticks from the yard. Easy, cute and almost free!

We are taking my 2 young boys and driving to California in 2 days. I was determined to finish this pillow and have it mailed out before the long road trip to lessen the amount of things on the old plate. Phew... I did it! I never really do anything heavy on the pinks for around the house because thus far I have been the only girl here, so I am excited to have an excuse to use all the pink fabric I have in my collection.

I finally found a great tutorial. These things are so much fun to make, and they look so pretty. after realizing I had my last round wrong once my afghan was complete, I took it all apart and redid it and it looks so much better. I'm glad I dragged myself through redoing it because it made all the difference.

zippered pillow

I could not tell you why, but I have been very intimidated by zippers my whole sewing life. I have attempted them, and just never had real success. They worked but looked awful. I guess where i went wrong was trying to do it with out any instruction... well, I got some amazing fabric that i wanted to make a pillow with, but it was a zipper pillow that was speaking to me :)

I found this tutorial on Design Sponge to be super easy to follow, and the results were great. If you have a phobia of zippers i highly suggest facing your fears with this tutorial.

I received this lovely pillow from Bulabean in the Pillow Talk {swap} a few days ago, and absolutely adore it. It is the most wonderful pillow. My oldest son has asperger's and loves puzzles and I spy type books, so he is in love with all the little pictures. It is perfect!

I can't decide if I like this swap more, or the scrappy hoop swap that I just did, but they are both loads of fun, and full of talented crafters. Sure... receiving a pillow at the end is awesome, but it is so fun to just watch what everyone creates for each other. I will be sending my partner her pillow this week, and I sure hope she loves it. i have found myself totally in love with hand carving stamps. i started making them because i wanted a logo stamp for my etsy shop in a jiffy, so i made my own, well now it might be growing larger than that. it is so fun!!! i made these iron on labels today with some stamps i have made! quite pleased with the way they turned out!

Alright, so I have been slacking on the blog, but I really have been so super busy. I have been trying my hardest to get my etsy store stocked to my liking so I can sit back and relax a little, but there are so many things I want to get made still. Oh well. tidy ticker tape tutorial

Alright... So I love the look of the ticker tape quilts, but I have never made one because the thought of raw edges makes me cringe a little. I know some of you are totally into the raw edges, but I devised a plan of attack to make the ticker tape work for me (and my fear of raw edges). so here it is...

all you need to make your tidy ticker tape pieces is fabric, scissors, steam-a-seam, and an iron.

I iron in the edges on parallel sides, and then following your steam-a-seam directions iron on the adhesive,
and fold over those edges and iron them down.

your piece should look like this. now flip it over and you have your non-raw edged ticker tape piece.
obviously, you dont have to use the steam-a-seam...
you could just iron all of your edges over, but I like the steam-a seam
cause it hold all the edges into place while you are stitching everything on.

ok... I know this is not rocket science, but I just thought I would share it with you in case there are any other raw edge phobes out there.

I have never been a big tomato fan, but there is something about eating the tomatoes freshly plucked from the garden that is so fulfilling. There are plenty of tomatoes to snack on, that is for sure. It's a good think my 2 year old, and 11 month old eat them like berries.

I learned a little about canning yesterday, and I am so excited to expand on it. I went to a friends and made raspberry and strawberry jam with her mom. I am especially fond of the strawberry jam ♥ This morning I purchased the goods to begin canning in my own kitchen. We are a gluten free- casien free household so I have been doing a lot of soups and freezing them for lunches, but canning opens up a whole new realm of possibilities.

Jess (mommy of Milky Robot) got me thinking about inspiration this morning, and it seems we have a lot in common. Graffiti and modern visual art is such a constant in my life. My husbands art supports our family so it is only natural that we are surrounded by inspiring art on a regular basis. A current fav. of mine is Barry McGee and his late wife Margaret Kilgallen. I finally got my humble little crafting corner in our bedroom organized today. It is small, but functional. We have been keeping our eyes open for a different table. The one I work on now is flimsy and bounces if the sewing machine gets going to fast. It's actually kind of comical! My husband paints at a table right next to this spot and whenever the table starts bouncing everything around he laughs and reminds me that we need to find a replacement. I thought I would post pictures cause I always enjoy seeing other peoples craft areas.

Whipped up a cute little pot holder today. My intentions were to make 2, but constant interruptions from 2 little boys resulted in one that took way longer than it should have, but hey... one is better than none, right? I still need to attach a little hanger, but I am thinking I will put a grommet on both, when the other is complete.

My 2 year old son has big sleep problems so I have been doing everything in my power to make his bed time fun and exciting. Today we picked out a fun fabric together and made this cute little pillowcase for him using the Film in the fridge tutorial. Major bonus was learning about French seams! Being self taught, I had no clue about french seams, but they are great.
